Herbal ACV Rinse

herbal acv rinse
I rarely use shampoo. I do Apple Cider Vinegar rinses instead of shampoo. Lately I've been experimenting with ACV rinses jazzed up with dried herbs (rosemary, peppermint and lavender). That's a photo above. I bet it doesn't look nearly as bad as it smells. Aside from the smell, I think I like it.

*Note: if you're pregnant, you cannot use rosemary everybody else should check with a doctor if you have any health issues.

Here's how I did it...

Ingredients

2 cups of apple cider vinegar 1 cup of herbs

HOW TO DO MAKE IT:
  • put 1 cup of chopped herbs in a jar/bottle
  • cover with 2 cups of apple cider vinegar
  • "steep" the mix in a tightly closed jar/bottle in a refrigerator or in a dark, cool place for two weeks.
  • strain steeped vinegar from herbs (via cheesecloth or coffee filter) into a fresh, clean bottle
  • refrigerate up to 6 months
If you don't want to wait two weeks, speed up infusion by heating the vinegar before pouring over herbs and then "steep" for a few days.

You need to use a glass jar with a plastic lid. A metal lid will cause a reaction with the vinegar.

HOW TO USE IT:

Dilute 1/2 to 1 tablespoon of the herbal vinegar in 1 cup of water. Pour over wet hair in shower. Rinse it out with fresh water or, for extra conditioning benefits, just leave it in and towel dry hair. The vinegar scent will disappear as your hair dries.

I never leave it in. I always rinse it out.

I use this mix about once every two weeks.

I've done ACV rinses in the past but I don't like the smell they leave.

I tried this last night and love love love it! I had gone 10 days without washing my hair (I know YUCK!) and my scalp was aching (2nd step beyond itching a lot). I just poured the ACV and water through my hair and not only was my hair clean but my scalp was happy and relieved! I don't mind the scent. My husband liked it. Thanks for the suggestion!

Wow! no shampooing? When I think of Vinergar I think acid, so I think it would leave your hair dry and brittle. Does the ACV leave hair dry & brittle?

Well, I've tried this technique once and I'm still on the fence about it. It left my hair quite soft and shiny...but on the flip side, the smell would not go away! It was literally making me sick to my stomach. Even my boyfriend complained of the smell! I eventually gave in and rewashed my hair. It still smelled! It took like 3 days for the smell to totally vanish. While the results were quite remarkable, the smell is just too much. I don't know if I put too much or what...but I am very reluctant to try this again.
