The main reason for posting this is to help women that have acne or experience a breakout and don't know why. Hopefully this list can be a first step to better skin. Try eliminating the ingredients from this list in your face and hair care regimens and see if it helps. You might be surprised to see how many comedogenic ingredients are in your cleansers, moisturizers and other stuff you're putting on and near your precious face.

Another oil to add: Jojoba oil. I have experienced severe breakouts with Jojoba oil. I have to read haircare product labels VERY carefully b/c of my allergic reaction to this oil. Great for the hair but bad for my skin! Love the site!!
ReplyDeleteThanks. This is good info to know!
ReplyDeleteCoconut oil??? I thought that was supposed to HELP your acne! I just bought a big jar! *sigh* I don't know what to believe. :(
ReplyDeleteWow, talk about helpful. I'm goignt o have to tell people about your list.
ReplyDeletethis is an interesting list. I have oily/acne prone skin and olive oil is the only thing that has completely cleared my skin. I've been doing the Oil Cleansing Method. It must vary from person to person
ReplyDeleteOMG Thank You so much for this!! MY face has been breaking out for the past few months and I couldn't understand why when I always had such clear skin. I was actually distraught and crying all yesterday morning over it because it just keeps getting worst. The oils never even crossed my mind, because being that they are well natural ...I figured they were the one thing helping my skin. But it def. makes sense, since some of it does come on my pillow ...and I rub my pillow on my face. Grr well back to my arsenal of hair products to tweak my hair regimen...sucha shame because my hair is in love with coconut oil! lol
ReplyDeleteLike Candice I use teh Oil Cleansing Method and the oils I use are mentioned in this list. This information, while helpful to those with problems, could cause people that could benefit from oil cleansing from doing so. I think it's best for each person to take this info and see if it actually applies to them. Everyone reacts to each product or ingredient differently.
ReplyDeletei am not really sure how to take this post. expect to say that more research should be done here. the fact is most if not all oils will/can clog pores. some just do it more than others. for example though apricot oil is less pore clogging than cocobutter but both oils are pore clogging (comedogenic), one over the other may not be the cause of your acne/ breakout.stress, diet and environment to name a few also plays a key role. It does make sense that occluded pores are more likely to produce acne, particularly if one is prone to acne, but to singularly name oils as the culprit is too easy a way out. all i can say is do your research and experiment, like this site does...
ReplyDeleteActually I have never had a breakout from Jojoba oil or shea they are both considered non clogging. But you maybe allergic if you do have reaction. Just because have an allergic reaction to the oil doesn't mean it will clog pores that just means your having a reaction.
