  1. I first went natural back in 1997, and trust me there was no youtube tutorials, or natural hair care blogs to lean on for encouragement and support. There was no knowledge on my part to seek sulfate, silicone and paraben free products. I had NO clue! So it was all too easy to get discouraged. I had too much opposition from friends, family members and whomever I was dating at the time. So of course I ran and got another relaxer after growing out a beautiful head of hair for four years. I would then go natural every other year, or at least attempt it, get discouraged and perm up again. Truth is I always loved curly hair and even when I had a perm I always tried to duplicate a curly look. Stupidly not realizing I could do that with my own natural hair. As of 2008, almost eleven years after my first attempt I am natural again, and I feel I have finally found peace within myself. I have about four inches of natural hair and I have just started two-strand twisting. I am hoping to grow it out much longer and try curlynikki's twist and curl. I use all natural products. I have a fiance who is accepting and supportive of my natural hair. Don't get me wrong, it's still a journey, and you have ups and downs. Or you may be out somewhere and see the other type of sista with a long flowing straight weave or relaxed hair and think, wow, or fear that you may not look as accepting as they do. But I'll never trade my natural, kinky, curly, coily head of hair ever again for the short lived, and eventual damage from a relaxed head of hair. I love my curls, and I love being me. No one else looks like me, and I know I stand out in a room full of perm heads. Whether the majority thinks negative or positive. It's my hair and I can wear it proudly!
