Go To Hair Style

The one style that makes being natural a piece of cake for me is my beloved braid outs. All I do is braid my hair in 10-15 braids and spiral the ends with flexi rods. I play with the thickness of braids and size of flexi rods to get different looks. If I want to stretch the curls to make my hair appear longer, I use the banding method after take the braids down. I usually re-braid and set on felxi rods every night and wash my hair once or twice a week. What's your favorite go to hair style that never fails you?

  1. I love braid outs also. They work great on my hair, but I do relax my hair every 6 mths.

  2. My flat twist out. The compliments keep me from doing anything else. Lol

  3. Believe it or not- I am a big fan of wigging it out [don't judge me; LOL]. They go on and off and have a ridiculously natural appearance to my permed hair. My hair was length waist permed and I am 8 months into my transition with 5 inches of new growth (un-straightened; all kinked up), and I LOVE wigs. I will have to send pics in hope of sharing my hair story following my chop (I plan to transition for another 4 months) The benefits of wigs are LOW manipulation to the hair. I literally get to co-wash daily, wear my hair in 4 nicely washed, sealed, braided plats (I pin them down) and I place a plastic cap on my head to seal moisture, THEN the cotton stocking cap, then my wig (that is of modest length that never exceeds my actual permed-length hair) Sometimes I go for exotic short-haired looks. I guess my confidence in admitting that I have on a wig or that I wear them (even though I am seldom asked since they do appear real) is that I have healthy and long hair underneath. In between work and school, I immediately remove my wig, and my stocking cap and plastic cap and place my loose, satin bonnet over my head so that my hair may breathe and not be OVERTLY moistened from the plastic cap procedure. If I do not want to retain as much moisture following the co-wash, I allow regular air dry. Just know that it is IMPORTANT to seldom place the COTTON stocking cap over the hair. You can even opt for a satin du-rag/wave cap underneath the wig or the cap.

  4. The ponytail is my all time, never fail trump card. I do have a good amount of shrinkage, I slather shea butter on it and twist my hair in four sections (shea butter makes it more pliable). After unwinding by hand, I place a large, loose elastic band on it. If that fails, then I co-sign with SOJO.

  5. I've become known by my braidouts and twistouts. When I'm not wearing my hair curly people are surprised.

  6. I am dedicated to my twist & curl (aka a twistout Curly Nikki style!). This past week was a perfect example of how I should just stick to my loyal go-to hairstyle. Last week wanting to do something different I tried a rollerset, now in the past they have worked fine but it was a totally nightmare. So then I washed and tried to do a cute wavy bun-it was cool for one day then a major no-no (tangled mess). Then on Sat morning I decied to do another rollerset, this time with smaller rollers, again I used to do these all the time and they were great but maybe since my hair has gotten so long it was a MASSIVE FAIL.

Sunday, tired and mentally drained from all this hair BS I went back to my usual twist & curl and today it looks full and healthy. My poor hair had been though so much this past week with all the styling failures, unnecessary heat and repeated detangling.

Yeah, I am going to stick with this style (even though I desperately need a change!!).

  7. I wear wigs for now like the poster above, so I guess I am still searching.
