Sunday Splurge: Silk'n Silk'n SensEpil Hair Removal Kit

The Silk'n Silk'n SensEpil™ Hair Removal Kit ($499 at Saks) is a portable, FDA cleared device that promises the same results of in-office laser hair removal treatment, but in your own home.

Okay, let's say it could deliver on all it's promises and it was perfectly safe to use, it would save money on razors, waxing, and spa visits in the long run. It got an average rating of 4 stars out of 5 on Sephora by 63 reviewers. A negative is that it will only work on fair skinned people with dark hair.

Not many people will spend this kind of money on something that may or may not work. It's a curious product, and if it really worked I might consider it... would you shell out the dough?

  1. I would spend the money but the Sephora site said it is not suitable for naturally dark complexions. I mean, I would really love to stop giving my money to Ideal Image.

  2. I know a friend who brought it and loves it. She sees a significantly less hair in that area. I agree as well.

Laser treatment has always worked best when you have less skin pigmentation and darker hair. This is true even if it is being done by a professional. I know this by experience. I spent a lot of money getting a laser treatment done. I have a dark complexion and it was a waste of time and money at the end. After researching I found out why it was not working.

  5. I've had dermatologist and estheticians tell me that lasers are not perm, only electrolysis is. So nope, wouldn't do it.

  6. I wouldn't buy it because all though I am a very light-skinned black person when I went to get laser hair removal i was left with burns...that was 1 and a half years ago and I still have the scars. When they say "fair skin" they mean white people without a tan.

  7. I wouldn't buy it its far too expensive for me. I have a Silk-épil that I really like and the hair gets thinner over time. At first it hurts a bit but after a few uses you dont even feel a thing and it takes at least a few weeks for the hair to grow back. Now thats something I would recommend and its so much cheaper too. I got mine on amazon for about $60.

  8. i would have spent the money BUT, you have to meet the criteria to use this type of machine. your skin color must be a 4-5 on the skin chart ( which is for fair skinned people). this is the type of machine that you can use on everywhere but your face. so it is still cheaper than going to dermatologist. just buy the refills year after year
