Curl Spotter: Little Curls for Ralph Lauren

Shot out to the Ralph Lauren brand for seeing the beauty in these little girls and their curls. We love it and we support those that support those that support a more inclusive standard of beauty. I wish I saw more of this as a little girl. I wish I saw more of it as a young adult, I would have gone natural a long time ago. How ironic is it when most of the women in your family, all the real women in your life that you look up to, wear relaxers and the only natural women you see are in ads or on tv? Whatever, we'll take it however we can get it — for now.

For those that say, "It's just hair," it's so much deeper than that and it started when we were little girls watching our mothers and aunts. You ever think of how going natural has affected little girls that look up to you: your little cousins, nieces, daughters?

We can't be so dependent on the magazines, media etc to show a diverse range of beauty. Its not up to other people to tell us we are pretty. What about little girls that have afro hair which is not so defined? R they supposed to give up on their natural hair because u don't see them very often.

I'm glad you put these beautiful little models pictures up. I also wonder as I see more and more naturals on TV and in ads, how many years I wouldn't have surrenedered to a super strength Revlon Hair relaxer, had there been more natural, beautiful girls of color in the Media when I was growing up. And I have seen, 1st hand, the difference my big chop made in the lives of the women in my family. Just 6 months after I went natural, so did two of my young neices. And one of my best friends has just decided to go natural as well. Judging from all the natural R&B singers, and models I see nowadays, I guess the hair revolution will be televised. HOORAY!

  3. Loving the little girl's hair in the first pic. I think that will be my summer hair color...if I work up the nerve.

  4. I think my 18-yr. old daughter will be the one most "affected" by my natural hair. We've permed together over the years, and when I began transitioning, she thought I was going to relax it (I've always been a perm stretcher), but this time I said no more for me.

She's watching me like a hawk...the products I'm using, the mini-chops (which have taken my hair from past shoulder length, to right below my ears)...she's telling me to stop.

But, I tell her I'm in this for the long haul...will you come with me? She says "but your hair is not like mine" (her's is so wonderfully thick; mine is not). I say I'll help you take care of it; we can learn together...she just looks at me like she doesn't believe, she, too, can wear her hair in its natural form.

I'm so sorry I started her on the relaxer-go-round, but now is my time to make amends. So, I have to keep on this path so she can see that ALL hair is good hair!
