Meet Kia Ling in her own words...The hair care regimen... Since I got introduced to the Deva Chan concepts, in the fall, I stopped combing my hair with a comb. Now I detangle thoroughly with my fingers. I used to twist my hair in two-stranded twists a lot. I would wear the twists as a style for two days. Then I would untwist and wear hair out for a day. By day four, I would transition to half up, half out. Last by the end of the week, I would be wearing a poufy pony-tail. Next, it was time to start over with a wash. So I usually only combed my hair once a week. Now I let my hair coil more. I still only detangle about once a week. Instead of a zig-zaggy look, my hair looks like a full mass of coils. They are both nice looks. I also try some faux-hawk looks and french rolls with curly bangs. I love my new bangs.
On trimming and cutting... I do not get my hair cut or trimmed regularly, mostly because I do not believe many people know how to cut kinky-curly hair, and I have had problems in the past, but also because I am frugal. Thankfully, I had an awesome experience getting my hair cut into a coif by Mr. Michael Syfax (in Brooklyn, NY), who trained under Deva Chan. From now on, I think I will only have Deva Chan- trained stylists cut my hair.
Favorite products... I like Wen and Deva Curl products. The Wen shampoo is an all-in-one that could get out any gunk from a fashion show and leave my hair so soft and detangled. VO5 hot oil shower conditioning treatment is an amazing and inexpensive product, especially if you leave it on for two minutes, instead of one. African Pride's Miracle Creme hair dressing is a product I stole from my brother after I tried it.
My favorite place to buy hair products is Ricky's of NY, which has a huge selection of products for kinky-curly natural hair.
My favorite hairstyle is what I call The Ross (a tribute to Diana). This is a full bob-length fro. This look is the Knock-em dead look, according to my mom.
Kia's links... I recently started writing a blog that is a collage of topics that interest me at insight2mslingling.blogspot.com
love her curls
ReplyDeleteFunny to see a South Florida lady with hair very similar to mine and one county north of me! Great and insightful blog. The post on being single really touched me. As a 5'9 brown skinned women with her own lion's mane, I came up with my own theroy on the subject. I call it the "rum raisin" theory. My mom's favorite ice cream is rum raisin. I have never met anyone else in my life who likes that flavor, but since I always notice it in the ice cream case, year after year, i think that someone must see this ice cream's light shine. So I have lots of vanilla friends pulling admires left and right, but the right one will have the specific taste for a very specific flavor, rum raisin. The right man will see your light shine, you will see his, and God will do the rest.
ReplyDeleteLove it. I read some of her blog and I jsut subscribe. We ahve so much in common. The physical (I'm 5'10, light skinnedm natural hair with freckles) and the mental (emotionally frustrated with being single). Cool! Love the hair on this blog and love the writings on her blog.
