You ever had the experience of being in the shower, washing your hair or looking in the mirror and just have a moment where you're surprised at the length of your hair? Share in the comments.
Just recently.. now that my hair is almost BSL.. it's starting to feel LONG in it's natural state when wet. I have LONG curls - something I've NEVER had before. Of course my shrinkage is outrageous.. but I'm learning ways to keep the curls elongated while drying.
My hair is as long as it's ever been in my natural life. Now, if I didn't keep it cut, it would probably be to my waist. Going natural was the best thing I ever did for myself. It was a process. Time goes by anyway, whether you optimize it or not. When you think of growing your hair and being healthy, you think 'years'. Go ahead and get started, because 'years' will pass regardless & before you look up you'll have a year or more under your belt. Obama's 1st year flew by didn't it. Case in point. I have friends that I suggested (years ago) that they begin taking care of their hair. Grow it out, don't be scared of the natural, wear a weave back-to-back if you have to, but just 'get started'. Well, the incorrect mindset about our hair is so ingrained that it takes some a really long time to get started. Valuable wasted hairgrowth time. Anyway, they would go on with their method of doing their hair, following the advice of clueless hairdressers, believing the false claims of product companies, and fast forward? Their hair is worse than it was years ago. It seems that folks would get hip to game. If the product companies that we've been watching for years have always promised 'healthy' hair, yet, we have witnessed the hair of our sisters get worse and worse. To the point that weaves are the forerunner to hairdressing. "Just cover it up because you'll never attain healthy hair" is the belief that we have hidden in our heart. We have been so bamboozled. And what really saddens me is, weaves are a 'tool' to grow your hair out and I see more sisters still relaxing and damaging their hair under the weave. why? It is a great feeling to actually have long hair. It was a dream as a child. It is a crown. It is a sign of health. It is coveted. The day you say, "Wow, my hair is really long" is such a sexy day. Long hair is thought to be so unattainable by our sisters that most don't believe I ever had short hair. Or they'll see my pressed hair and won't believe that it's ever been nappy. I'm like wow. I'm not black anymore? I'm the same nappy headed, broken hairline, over-processed, damaged crown sister as you, but I've transcended that & decided to commit to doing something about it. Committed to doing something for myself. Something good. As sisters, sometimes we are connected by our brokenness and feel like we can't relate to someone who isn't (hair) broken. Like, if you have healthy hair you're not one of 'us'. Hair racism. That's a whole 'nother post.
BTW, I love your blog. We're gonna have to connect. We are from the same tribe. I'mma be a better blogger for http://primpclub.blogspot.com/ . Follow me & I wanna put you as a link there also. smooches
Two years ago before deciding to stop pressing my hair I got a super short Victoria Beckham style bob. I loved it until every other women I saw white, black and everthing in between had one. So I decided to let it grow...it grew out to about shoulder length in about 4 mos. Since then it has been on a slow boat to China! :( About a week ago I jumped out of the shower to grab some duckbill clips and caught a climpse of my hair soaking wet...can you say BSL!! I was so excited. I am on my way to achieving the same length I had before my cut.
I used to have reeaaaalllly long hair and then I chopped it all off for a short style (think Halle Berry circa 'Swordfish'). I've been growing it back out and everytime I wash it I feel so excited like "YAY! MY HAIR IS LONG!" .....and then I go get my ends trimmed and that joy goes away. It's all in the name of l.o.v+e though.
Yes. I've been there. It's typically hit me when I'm washing my hair and can feel it on my back. Lately, I've noticed it's length when I'm wearing a twist-out and I'm like, "Oh, we can do now". I'm lovin' my hair growth!
The other day I straightened my hair for the first time since BC'ing in September and my hair is already almost to the bottom of my neck excluding the sides which are chin length, I was so shocked, shrinkage sucks lol.
YES! I dont really pay attention to my hair growth because then it seems like it isnt growing fast enough. But every few months and have an "Aha!" moment. Natural hair grows so fast and healthy. I am glad I took the plunge and stayed true to how God created me. It has certainly been a beautiful journey. =)
I flat ironed my hair a week ago(hated it so much I only lasted a day with it! I missed my curlz! I haven't flat ironed since last August!) and it's finally longer now than when I was relaxed. It's now past bsl!...I'm loving the growth!
two weeks ago i was taking down my twists. while i was taking down the twists front i noticed its was down my chin then i decided to check the back and found out that it is almost APL. since i was born my hair has never being SL talk less of almost APL.
