What Are Your Hair Frustrations?

Here's your time to hair vent. We all experience a little hair frustration from time to time. What's the most frustrating thing about dealing with your hair?

  1. I find the different lengths frustrating, I wish it would all grow at the same pace!

  2. My crown area is "NAPPY". I know we are sensitive about that word but it is the best one to describe that area. I have 3c/4a hair and my crown is the hardest part to detangle. I think the hair there is thinner and it doesn't like playing with the thicker strands very well so they just frizz.

  3. The hair in the front of my head (not the sides but between my eyes) back to the crown does not curl...at all. Even when I twist it, it stays straight. Always have to pin it back to keep from looking so bad.

  4. Split ends. I get them if I blink too suddenly. And not just a demure little split at the very end of the hair shaft. I feather and branch nearly 2 inches from the bottom of my hair, making trims = cuts and length retention = imaginary.

Thank goodness I have volume and thickness to make up for the splintery ends of my hair!

  5. Currently, for me 6 months into transtioning and 11 weeks no heat styling. My hair is totally shedding mainly and the tangles of my relaxed ends are aggravating. I am confident that this is a stage and I just need to work through it best I can. Anyone else experience a "shedding" phase.

  6. I've worn my hair in its natural state for many, many years. One time I did opt for a perm, to my regret, and let it grow out so I could get back natural.

My complaint today is that I live in what I consider a backward assed town where the natural do is not revered. "They" still say 'good' hair, 'bad' hair, with bad, of course, being any follicle that screams AFRICA! So consequently, it's all but impossible for me to find a stylist, or even a good old barber to do justice to my hair. I'm of the belief that whoever touches my head has to have respect for natural hair, or it will not thrive. I would love to get a decent cut, and not be scalped, or mangled, but alas, I have to settle for doing it myself the best I can. This situation interferes with my fly diva image that I have of myself.

  7. I've been wearing braid extensions since August 2009. The kitchen section was already passed the shoulder. When I take out my braids and detangle, I feel like I have more shedding than growth and I am not sure if it is balancing out. I felt my hair was heavier when i was washing but i think it's because i still had shedding hair caught at the root. I don't know. Don't plan on blow drying straight until the summer then tha's when I can see if the braiding method is working for me.

  8. I have to agree with Stace. I wish my hair would grow equally. The back seems to grow faster than the sides and front of my head.

  9. I've had locs for almost 2 and a half years, and since I started locking my hair, my edges on the right side won't lock! I think my hair stylist has tried every method, but it just won't give!

Since that patch of hair obviously doesn't want to bud on its own, I've had that patch of hair join other locs several times. I hate that it looks like I'm missing one in that area, but it's like I rather have that than just a collection of loose hairs sticking out.

But get this...after all of that, hair still manages to grow in that area outside the loc, leaving me with a new patch sometimes within a month of a retwist. I'm glad my edges have finally gotten healthy enough to grow, but would it just lock already! Sheesh!

  10. 13 Months into my transition... some days I want to BC and others I dont. Holding onto it seems pointless- but getting rid of it is deathly scary. I love the length of my braid and twist outs even with the relaxed ends. Only stress is on wash days.

  11. I'm like 8 months out from my BC (in which I cut off all my hair), and I love my hair. I do. But I really don't know what she wants. At all. I know there are random days when I make her happy and she's curly and springy and shiny, but most of the time she seems to be mad at me for one reason or another. It's breaking my wallet because I don't have the time to be a mixtress, so I buy whatever I think she'll like. Sigh.

When I was transitioning BOY DID I SHED! So for all you girls going through that, it's "normal". I ended up BC-ing because it was too frustrating watching my hair fall out. Now that I have been natural for 3 years, my frustrations stem from uneven growing (like others pointed out) and shrinkage!!! Is it so bad to want my hair to look even half it's length?!? And forget about trying to make my twist outs last if its humid or if I work out; its just a TWF(teeny weeny fro) day. That said, I heart my locs regardless.
