How did you prepare for the BIG CHOP or how do you plan to prepare if you haven't done it yet? Have any exciting plans on the day of? A party with close friends to debut your new look? Share in the comments.
I did a spontaneous big chop in the bathroom with my husband while on vacation. I just got out the shower and was frustrated with the straight ends so he helped me cut them off. I think that everyone can fill when it's the right time for them to do a big chop, if that's even what they want to do. I don't think it's necessary but usually you do reach a point where you're tired of the 2 textures.
I didn't really prepare for the BC. I did the BC after taking out 3month old box braids. While I was detangling my hair, I just started chopping away. It went pretty well. I think being mentally prepared is best.
I have a question for everyone. Who went to get their hair cut professionally? Did it make a difference having a professional do it as opposed to doing it yourself? If you could do it again, would you do it yourself or have someone else do it?
@BrownEyedPanther: My cousin really hooked me up. When all was said and done it was shorter than I expected and even shorter than what I would have done if I cut it myself. But let me say, I adored it when he finished! I truly have a TWA! All I can do are wash and gos which fits me perfectly b/c I'm a low maintenance type chica anyway. He shaped it up and faded it in the back, etc. It looks really feminine and fresh! 2 months later, I get lots of compliments still! So if you don't mind a short 'do or you're just scared to cut your own hair in general, I say go for it and let them work their magic! :) If I had cut it myself, I probably wouldn't have risked such short tresses, which is sad because I love it and will probably keep it short for a while! :) Word of advice given to me by my Cousin: if you do go to a barber shop, wait around to see who gets the most people in their chair. This is probably the best barber in the shop and this is who you want to cut/style/shape you up. Also, ask him if he has cut ladies' hair before. You want it to look feminine, soft edges, etc. (not those hard right angles dudes usually have...you know what I mean) Be specific about what you want, it's your money but most importantly it's YOUR hair! Whatever you leave with, rock with confidence!! :D Sorry it's so long, I couldn't resist :)
