Supplements Much?

Have vitamins and supplements helped your health or hair? What are you using and why do you swear by it?

  1. I'm afraid that I have not seen any marked difference in growth from taking biotin or msm. Even the hair growth aids like mega tek only give a growth boost for about a minute then hair growth goes back to normal. The way I see it, if you have a deficiency then the supplements will help but if you eat a good varied diet and are in good health, they are not neccessary. Your hair will grow anyway, with or without supplements!

  2. Hair growth is genetic. If your mama, cousins, aunties, and granny all have short, brittle, thin hair... that may be your destiny... pretty similar to weight, height, etc.

There is no rocket science to hair growth and length.

  3. I respectfully disagree Hidaya. Most of my family members have much shorter hair than me. I do think there are techniques and specific knowledge women can use to achieve healthier hair and retain lengths they never thought possible. Down to their knees? I don't know, maybe. But just because your family's hair is a certain way doesn't mean you are subject to the same destiny. Are supplements the answer? I don't know but knowledge and proper hair care is for sure.

  4. I have seen increased thickness from taking supplements in the past (mainly from msm). But I haven't seen or noticed any increase in growth.

I also must disagree with hidaya that your hair doesn't have to be completely subject to genetics. But, I do believe in a terminal length, meaning there is a length that people simply can't grow their hair past.

  5. I would also have to disagree. I'm a lurker on this site but I think that we (west indians and black women) are so wrapped up in mistreating our hair SO much that granny, mommy and auntie have dry brittle and short hair... If everyone let their hair thrive I wonder if we would have this belief.
