Do You Buy Homemade Hair Products?

Even Carol's Daughter started off as a home-based business. It was the people that bought from her in the brand's early days that made is possible for the company to be a multi-million dollar brand today. So, how likely are you to buy homemade hair products? Are you skeptical? Are you a product junkie, so you'll try anything? Do you buy just to support the spirit on entrepreneurship? Have you had good or bad experiences buying homemade?

  1. I've bought many handmade hair products, and I haven't had a problem yet. Being a small business owner myself, I firmly believe in supporting other small businesses, especially from women of color. While the product may not have the "perfect manufactured look", it's often made with top-notch ingredients, and the customer service is impeccable.

  2. I do prefer homemade hair care products. The reason is that I don't like using chemical-laden products, so I could either buy all naturals from a larger company for more money, or buy something that might be a bit simpler, but is a lot cheaper. This is not to say that I don't try other products. I love shampoo bars from the lovely people on Etsy, and I do try and support products that are REALLY made for us by us, not just some CEO saying so.

  3. Being in the UK, I've bought/been given several home made/hand made hair products and I love them! Here, there aren't as many resources like in the States (where I'm from & will be returning to in June) so you get to know and trust other women, other naturals to provide you with what your hair needs, especially if you are not a 'kitchen mixtress' !
I am a bit of a PJ ... but I'm slowing down. I'm grateful for what I've tried because I've learned from it all!

  4. I actually make many of my toiletries (I'm an esthetician and picked a few things in my travels).

I kind of stopped using Carol's Daughter products because they keep changing the ingredients around.

I've also learned that just because someone makes it in their kitchen doesn't make it natural.

  5. I want to try some of the homemade products but have not. I make my own hair products just my spray leave in and my hair oil sealer and a hair oil deep conditioner. I turned to my own kitchen as I was not able to find anything inside of the stores.

So yes I would try home made products.

  6. I'm in the process of developing a line of natural skincare and haircare products, that will be available for purchase soon; initially these products will be homemade.

I'm based in the U.K. at the moment, and there's a huge scarcity of chemical-free, handmade products here.

  7. I love buying homemade hair products and supporting indie businesses, though I've had both good and bad experiences. What I hate the most is a product being inconsistent. First time works like a charm, next purchase, bleh, due to an unforeseen ingredient change. I hate that. I keep my routine simple and after 8 years, my steady supply of shea, coconut oil, and aloe vera gel never fail me.
