Going Natural
I think my hair is a form of expression. I style my hair like I feel. If I feel masculine I'll put my hair as a tighter curly fro. (I've been told I look like a Dominican boy) There are so many styles do with our hair and being natural helps exude every emotion in my body.
Hair Care Regimen
I try to co-wash my hair every week, but as a college student sometimes it becomes every two. I've been playing around with pre-pooing, but haven't mastered it yet. I deep conditioned every time I co-wash with an alternation of AOHSR or ORS Hair Mayo. Then I moisturize with Oyin's Whipped Pudding or plain Shea Butter. My favorite hair styles are twist-outs and updos.
My Favorite Hair Products and My Favorite Way to Get Them
Oyin's Whipped Pudding, Karen's Body Beautiful Hair Milk, EVOO, and H20. I like trading hair products with fellow curlies. It is the best way to go! You can get reviews and trade unwanted products to subside your PJism.
Hair Horror Story
Oh boy where do I start! Well, I first went natural senior year of high school. I had a horrible experience in the hair salon. I'm from New York so I've been going to the Dominican hair salon for my whole life. It's one thing to have a perm, but to have a relaxer and color; that’s a whole other story. On this day, I got a touch up for my perm because it was a week before prom. The hairdresser put perm on my colored hair! (BTW it was a beautiful color; Cinnamon Brown) As a teenager I worked at a hair salon, so you would think I knew better; think again! I was so mad at myself! How could I let such a thing happen? Low and behold my luscious locks that was past my shoulder began to depart from my head! The horror! I let them proceed with the styling and left immediately after. It wasn't until a week later when I was getting my hair done for prom that the new stylist told me my hair was beyond damaged and that I would most likely have to cut the perm off or it would fall off. Can you imagine my face! (I think you can because my shows everything) I nearly cried; but I sucked it up for my own sake. I left the salon with a beautiful pin curl mohawk and tried not to think about my hair for prom. To make a story short, I've always admired my mom (who has lovely locks), and my sister (who is a curly) hair so I realized it was time for change. A few days later a cut my past shoulder length hair to a TWA and haven't looked back since. Sometimes you just have to take a leap forward and not reminisce on the past.
