Yesterday, my aunt bought me the new Goody Spin Pins after I went to every drugstore in the city searching this weekend. They come two per pack, are available in blonde and brunette and retail for about $5.99.
Spin Pins securely hold buns in place and the commercial says that it takes the place of 20 bobby pins. I tried them out on my hair in a natural state and they did in fact hold my bun in place. They were also quite easy to remove, you just twist it out. It works kind of like a corkscrew and was unlike anything I've ever tried before. They are definitely a new must-have in my regimen. I love that I don't have to mess around with hair ties or scrunchies.
The Spin Pins would work great if you're doing the 'Southern Tease Bun' and many other loose low tension updos. I'll try do something this week and post photos. I haven't seen any curly-haired YouTubers trying the pins in a natural state. I might try it unless someone beats me to it. (I hope someone beats me to it).
Have any of you tried the Goody Spin Pins? What do you think of them? Vote in the poll and leave your comments.

Hi! Can you post a picture that shows how the spin pins look on curly hair? thanks!
ReplyDeleteHey maneandchic,
ReplyDeleteI know you hate making vids but we love your vids! Please make a vid of you using this hair bobby pin bun thing. We need a visual to completely understand this product and maybe try it out for ourselves. Thanks in advance.
The Spin Pin is not a new idea. I have before me an unopened package of The Hair SCROO (two in a package), which I bought in London twelve years ago during my days as a flight attendant. I had also seen them in Honolulu. They are described as “a hairpin with a twist” and show the back of a model securing a French Twist with the pins. The package states “A revolutionary hairpin that secures all hairstyles quickly and easily. Ideas and instruction leaflet enclosed.” I still have the Glamour magazine article stating that the Hair SCROO is the most innovative new hair accessory for doing French Twists. The fellow who patented them was from South Africa and he did not keep up the patent on the Hair SCROO, though I do not know why.
ReplyDeletehonestly I just bought one of these and I hate them they do not hold back my hair at all I have hair about four inches below my shoulders and I tried, had friends try and theese pins do not work I wouldn't reccomend them
ReplyDeleteI really enjoy these little things! My hair is kinky curly and dense, but fine so anything tight like a ponytail holder or tight band all day will rip it out quick. I love loose buns and updos, but my braiding skills are mediocre so I have to get creative with tucking, twisting, and pinning. I wanted to try these so bad, but like you I couldn't find them. I just happened to stop by a drugstore near my job and there they were! They work exactly as promised to me. Easy to put in and easy to remove. It doesn't snag or tangle or hurt my scalp like some pins. I need to go back there and stock up because if I lose this one pair I will be so hurt. I'm surprised more naturals aren't using them.
