Kinky-Curly Contest: Why Don't You Show Your Face

"Why don't you ever show your face?" "Are we ever going to see your face? I'm sure you're really pretty." I show my face... see it to the left? I actually don't get these kind of questions or comments like this a lot, but the new wardrobe feature has sparked some inquisitiveness. I mean maybe you don't leave a comment for me to read or send an e-mail, but if you read the blog then I'm sure you have asked yourself the same question. This morning I got that comment and it just made me laugh just thinking of ridiculous reasons or answers I could give. Do some people think it's weird, creepy, annoying or impersonal that I don't show my face? Maybe. Honestly, I simply want to keep as much anonymity as possible. There's really no other reason. Will I ever show my face? Maybe. If it were for a good cause or if there were a good enough reason. To be honest, it could be holding me back. There are so many ideas I have that could really catapult Mane & Chic to the "Nth  level", but because I don't show my face, I am very limited. It is quite challenging. So, who knows what will happen next. Then again, everybody else shows their faces. I think it's kind of cool and mysterious that I don't show my face like "Nanny" from The Muppet Babies. I'm not trying to be Internet-famous. Nothing wrong with that, if that that's what you want. I just want to blog about the stuff I like, get inspired by the women I interview and maybe inspire a couple of people in the process. The surge of recent comments and questions made me think of another contest: the second way to win one of four Kinky-Curly prize packs. I want to come up with a list of funny and absolutely ridiculous reasons for why I don't show my face like...
  • I'm an alien and I have 3 eyes.
  • I'm in the witness protection program.
  • I have hair stalkers that would sneak into my house and cut my hair if I ever showed my face.
  • My face is terribly deformed and I look like the Splice baby.
  • I have the face of a horse.
  • I'm  a mental patient and my doctor would put me in straitjacket if they found out I was blogging about hair and fashion.
  • I'm a drug lord and in the Top 50 America's Most Wanted.
  • I'm a famous and I'm afraid that revealing my true identity on Mane & Chic will ruin my acting/music career.
Ok, so here's your second chance to win the Kinky-Curly giveaway. The deadline for this is midnight Central time on Thursday, July 15. Submit ONLY CREATIVE, ORIGINAL, FUNNY, CONCISE and GRAMMATICAL reasons as to why I don't show my face to info@maneandchic.com. You can send a list of reasons if you're really creative or just one really awesome one. I will post the top entries, but there will only be one winner. Be as funny as you want. If you're not rolling on the floor laughing when you think of it, then don't even send it. Listen, I can totally take a joke and I can laugh at myself, so don't hold back. PLEASE DO NOT SEND ATTACHMENTS, THEY WILL NOT BE READ. Be sure to use "Reasons you don't show your face" as the subject line of the e-mail. That's all. If you have any questions, please leave them in the comments.

Hi. This is my first time commenting but I have been following your blog since earlier this year and I love it so much. I've been natural my whole life but your site has opened my eyes to proper natural/curly hair care and styling options I was never aware of before.
I actually think it's kind of cool that you hide your identity. It adds an element of mystery and intrigue, plus I totally get what you mean about not wanting to be "internet famous". If I were you I'd probably do the same thing.
P.S. I really like the new "Worked" fashion posts. You've given me some really great (and thankfully budget friendly) ideas.
Keep up the good work girl!

I have asked myself this question once before.I figured since maneandchic's main focus is about hair, then why should seeing the blogger's face matter? It's the content on your blog that counts :)

  13. I'm assuming this was already said, but I have the feeling that all of the comments are not showing up for me or they were deleted maybe?

Anyway yeah, you did show your face before! Everyone on LHCF, myself included, viewed it in the big chop video (which was also posted on this site). It has since been deleted however. Too bad, I liked that video.

Do you. If you don't want to show your face that's cool. Your readers love you and you will continue to be a success and inspiration either way.

  14. Niki, I have not deleted any comments for this post. I do get a lot of spam posts from spammers trying to sell stuff... the comments on Mane & Chic are moderated. A lot of people just don't care and if they do maybe they don't read the blog anymore. I'm cool with that too.

Yeah the video showed my face a little, that was an accident... I hate video editing. I'll probably put it back up one day when I feel like re-editing it.

  15. Yea I'm pretty much on the same boat as everyone else. The fact that you don't show your face doesn't take anything away from the blog and adds a subtle mysterious element so I think it is pretty neat.

and as tempting as the kinky curly looks, I have not one quirky/creative bone in my body so I will reluctantly leave the contest alone lol.

    keep up the great work=)

  17. You are Beyonce's long lost sister and don't want people to say you are stealing her shine, lol.

P.S.: You are WERKing those fashion posts! It doesn't matter that you don't show your face... I've been reading your blog for about 2yrs now and I don't think that has taken away from the substantial advice and great tips you give. Keep up the good work :)

  18. You're a hair model for Miss Jessie's and the reviews on non Jessie's products will void your contract with the company. I wasn't rolling on the floor laughing. I was searching for the truth.

I always thought you were a model and maybe recognized from ads and commercials.
