Tip 26 Be Cautious of Hair Advice

It seems like every time you look up there is a new hair blog or new bandwagon in the hair care forums. Be very cautious of who and where you're getting your hair care advice. I've seen some scary stuff out there. I've even seen people steal my pictures from this blog and try to pass them off as their own, giving hair advice. Can you believe that? Now, I admit that when I first decided I wanted to grow out my hair, I tried every trick in the book and hopped on any bandwagon that seemed plausible. Luckily, I never suffered  any adverse effects, but I sure lost a lot of time and money. Be especially careful of mixing ingredients, just because it's in your kitchen and it's edible doesn't mean it can't cause an adverse chemical reaction when mixed with a hair product or another ingredient in your kitchen. If you don't know what you're doing or if you have any doubts, just don't do it.

  1. you are so right. I hear almost every natural rave about how much they love coconut oil and how great it smells. It makes my hair smell like vomit. No matter what brand or how 100% organic it is. I get the same smell. I have tried it several different ways with conditioner, without conditioner, even when I wash it out it get the same result. I have to shampoo my hair to get the smell to leave.

I agree. This new ph balanced bandwagon has me a bit worried, I can see potential disasters.

  4. 1) coconut oil makes my hair smell like cookies and has only strengthened my hair. That's no trend.
    2) Many natural shampoos and conditioners ARE PH balanced. You're just not aware of it. Giovanni is a favorite of mine. It is ph balanced. Aubrey Organics is another.

Yes, it's no 'trend' I cannot STAND the smell of coconuts but I can't deny the improvement I've seen in my hair, look outside the hair forums at it's benefits, I'd say the only reason NOT to use it is if you're allergic.

But yes you do have to be careful of the advice you get because there is so much out there. My personal rule of thumb is anything that goes on my scalp should be able to go on my skin, and anything that goes ON my hair should be able to go IN my body.

I love Giovanni products and I use the Vatika coconut oil. It smells like lemon to me. I love how it gets absorbed into the hair. It has made my hair healthier and stronger.I also make sure to do extra research before I try new products or concotions even if they are natural. My hair is not in the best of shape for constant experimenting.
