Worked: Day 1 Stripes and Thunder

I've always wanted to do a wardrobe workout blogging project for Mane & Chic. I knew I didn't want to do the celebrity red carpet fashion stuff, because it's not really practical. I just wanted to show everyday-just-living-my-life gear. Unlike celebrities, most of us cannot afford to buy a new outfit for everyday of the week, so we have to work with what we have and mix it up. In my younger days, I was quite the shopaholic. Life events and economic conditions put things in perspective for me as I'm sure it did for many of you.

This project is the result of all of the polls I've been posting as of late. Remember when I asked: how much would you spend to re-build your wardrobe, how many shoes you'd wear over the course of a season or where you needed the most fashion inspiration (dressy, casual or work)? Well, all of your answers helped me find direction with this project. So, starting today, July 1, you will see a month's worth of outfits and how I use the pieces in my wardrobe to make all those different outfits. I'm a bit eclectic, so you'll see a bunch of different types of looks (hopefully). I didn't use any jewelry or handbags, but I will suggest other items and where you might be able to find what I'm wearing. I'll be using under 40 pieces, nothing costs over $150 (well, maybe some of the shoes). This is a budget-friendly project, if nothing else. The whole wardrobe is under $2500. I really hope you like it and you get something inspirational out of it. I'd love to hear your feedback in the comments and in the poll at the bottom of the post.

Here it goes, DAY 1...

I'm wearing...
Urban Outfitters sparkle & fade lightning pant pants $38
Urban Outfitters bdg varsity stripe oblong scarf scarf $24
Urban Outfitters urban renewal fleece puff sleeve top sweater $32
Pelle Moda ankle-strap platform sandal in "chocco vintage" (chocolate brown) $159 on Endless

Handbags that would work with this look ... (click images for details)

How do you feel about Look 1?

can you comment on the kinds of pieces every wardrobe should have? How many skirts? tops? pants? jackets? to be versatile enough. i feel i buy things when they are on sale without thinking about how they would fit into my existing wardrobe. how many tank tops does a person really need:-)

  8. Cool I'm glad you all like it.

Anonymous... that really depends on the person. You don't really need more than one outfit... I mean truly... we don't need anything. We could all wear potato sacks. Some people want to have a lot of clothes, but we don't need them. I'll try to address your question though. I will let you know that I am a minimalist. I only keep a certain number of items in my wardrobe. When I buy something new I get rid of something old.

Rona Lisa... the shoes are actually brown. They call it "Chocco Vintage" or something like that. Very chocolate brown. I will do an individual post on all of the shoes.

Thanks for the kind words everybody. Really! I didn't know what you'd think of this. So thanks for the feedback.

A high wedge would've definitely made this complete or me, personally I would've done a bright colored shoe. Mixing of patterns is definitely in style now, but it still seems too matchy" matchy" with the colors. I like the fact that you took a risk though. neat

  14. Cool Lauren. My shoes are brown... you can't tell in the photo. I did feel like it needed a punch of color... I'd do that with a bag... I do have some bright shoes... but they didn't work for this.

I will have to keep my looks sort of safe to appeal to the masses. My readers all have very different tastes. I won't be doing anything too crazy.
