  1. I had my first relaxer at age 12. By 15 I had unconsciously transited and did the big chop right before graduation from high school in 2003. By 2005 second year of college with constant question of :What are you going to do with your hair?" I had it loc'd. I am transitioning and I think my last relaxer was October 2009. The thing is I had in locs and a permanent hair. First the colour was a golden blond then I dyed it black. So any way I wanted a change and I pulled out the locs and I guess I was impulsive and did a complete about turn and relaxed my hair. The problem is and I had to figure this out on my own, I went to 3 different stylist who kept on saying that the damaged relaxed hair could be repaired. One thing I realized soon after the relaxer in May 2009 I started desperately trying curl the relaxed hair. A link brought me to this site and realized that I had always loved my natural hair and truly wanted curly hair my naturally curly hair.

The problem in transitioning is my relaxed hair was damaged and the transitioning styles were not an option so I have for the past 10 months or so I have had my hair in a bun. I am seriously starting to hate buns.

So hear is my question, is it too soon to to do the big chop?

I am terrified that if I cut my hair I will hate it.

  2. 1)What are common myths about transitioning? For example, does doing the BC make your hair grow faster. I've read posts that say this but wondering if there is actually any scientific evidence that backs this up.
2)More on working ayurvedic hair care into a routine.
3)Do hair/nail supplements help hair growth?

  3. Lucifreedom, you should read this post: Transitioners Thursday: When To BC: http://maneandchic.blogspot.com/2010/06/transitioners-thursday-when-to-bc.html

No one can tell you when to BC. If you feel like you will hate it, don't do it.

  4. Anonymous, I'll work on a list of transitioning myths, enlisting the help of Mane and Chic readers.

I'll also host a poll asking women if they observed faster growth or better length retention after the BC.

I will update my posts on Ayurvedic Haircare, but I'll just say up front that I don't use those products anymore.

I just wrote a post about my thoughts on vitamins, you can read it here: http://maneandchic.blogspot.com/2007/09/vitamin-switch.html
My short answer: no, I don't think vitamins aid in hair growth for most people. If you are deficient in a vitamin or mineral then you may notice a difference in growth, but I don't think this is the case for most women. I will pose the question in a poll though.

  5. Hi! Ive been following your blog for about a year and I really love it! Im fifteen and I have been transitioning for a year now. I have many different textures in my hair which is natural however the hair near my hairline has no curl pattern at all!Its really thick and frizzy but its not wavy nor is it curly. It almost resembles permed hair however its alot thicker and a little rough to the touch. I remember reading your post on scab hair however my hair has had over 12 months to transition. Is this normal? I appreciate any suggestions or feedback you have for me! Thanks!
