This month, Mane and Chic will be dedicated to different hair setting techniques. That's right, the entire month of September will feature several hair setting techniques. The way you set your hair is the foundation of your hairstyle and I have several techniques to show you. To make it easier for me and to make the visuals more uniform, I decided to use wefts of human hair. This hair most closely resembles 3B hair, but don't feel left out. I'd like to try these setting techniques on hair with tighter curl patterns and kinky hair, this is just what I had on hand when I got the idea. I've never used the weft and it's just been in a box for the past three years, so I thought this was a good way to use it. As for the weft itself, I can't remember where I purchased it or what brand it is, but I do know it was over $100. Also, the curls on the weft aren't super defined so the hair looks more wavy than curly, but that's ok since most of the techniques I will show you will make use of rollers to define the ends.
This first shot shows dry hair after it's been combed out. I'm just showing you the starting point. Most of you should be able to relate. The last time I polled readers, over 50% of you said your hair was in the 3B-4A range (about 30% of you consider yourselves Type 4 Kinky, Under 1% are Type 1 or 2 and 10% don't know your hair type). My hair is in the 3C-4A range and it looks a lot like this when it's been "dry combed". Hair typing doesn't matter, these visuals should just give you a general idea of the results you should expect to get. The most important aspect is you will be able to compare different techniques and decide which ones you want to add to your hair repertoire.
