Goal-Setting Part 1 What Do You Want?

Many of you have sent me e-mails and messages about goal-setting as it relates to life in general since I mentioned I was using it in all areas of my life. I read a lot of books on the subject, beginning 3-4 years ago and I can't tell you enough about how practicing it has changed my life for the better. It has not only changed my life, but people in my life have also benefited from taking my advice and applying goal-setting techniques to their lives. You wouldn't believe how fast it works. There are a lot of scientific terms to describe what happens, but I won't go into it. You can read the books I list below.

The first thing you do is truly figure out what you want out of life. Remember when you were a child and you really used your imagination? It's time to do that again. Picture your dream life and then ask yourself why do you want all the things you want? You have to get to the core of what you want. If you want to get married and have kids desperately, why do you want that? If you want to be a millionaire, what is it that you really want? Freedom? To be your own boss?

I began to daydream, meditate and visualize my ideal life. It's as much a part of my day as brushing my teeth and showering. I began creating movies in my head of a parallel universe. (Have I lost you?) Basically, if you could have everything you wanted right now and be the best you that you could be, what would it look like right now? I do this everyday and I usually write it in a cute journal before I go to sleep.

Marinate on that and if you should feel so inclined, leave your dreams in the comments.

Be sure to watch Shira's videos on YouTube (she's naturally curly) and she has a series on the book, Write It Down, Make It Happen. Here's the link to the first video in that series. Her channel is one of the few where I watch the videos straight through to the end. She does hair and makeup video tutorials too.

  5. I love this topic. This summer, I was in a funk. I could not accomplish anything at work or at home. I realized I had taken my eyes off the prize. A job that was supposed to help me pay the bills while I studied photography was taking up all of my time.

Now, I'm back at at square one.

Please consider posting a listing of your favorite resources (books, authors, etc).
