If you've been reading Mane and Chic for awhile then you know that I own a Pibbs Kwik Dri, but have been lusting after the Gold 'N Hot Ionic Soft Jumbo Bonnet Dryer. I've had it for about a week now and I've used it once. The band irritates me and it's not as easy to sleep in as I thought especially since it doesn't have a built in timer. I wouldn't advise sleeping under a dryer even though I do. I am super careful and I set a loud alarm clock so that I'm not under there all night, drying my hair out or burning the house down. I used it on low heat for about an hour to 90 minutes. It was as loud as my Pibbs, but not disturbingly loud. I was able to take an hour nap while drying my hair. I wish the cord was longer, and the tube that the air travels through gets really hot. I'm really on the fence about keeping it. That being said, if you're on a tight budget, don't have a lot of space to store hair equipment or if you travel a lot, this would be an excellent option.

I wouldn't advise keeping it. I had a bonnet dryer about 10 years ago and I thought I could take nap while drying my hair. Big mistake. I wasn't as careful as you and that very hot tube caused blisters to form on my back. Lol
ReplyDeleteI have a soft bonnet by Revlon with the same cons that's why I rarely use it especially since the tube gets so hot who wants to walk around with neck burns.
ReplyDeleteI have th older verison and I absolutely love it. I always find myself taking a nap when I'm using it to dry my hair. It is definitely a girls best friend to fabulous hair.
ReplyDeleteThis post came just in time. As my hair grows, it takes longer and longer to dry. I need to invest in a soft bonnet dryer, nothing too fancy I'm simply looking for something to speed up the drying process and something I can deep condition with. Thanks for you're review! It'll help as I look around more.
ReplyDeleteHow about I was going to buy this tomorrow b/c I've killed my old one and I like the new look.
ReplyDeleteI bought the same one from Sally's and the tube started detaching from the dryer after using it only twice. Fortunately, I was within the 30 day return window and was able to take it back. I ended up getting an old GE Bonnet dryer from Ebay and the bonnet is a lot sturdier and does the same thing.
ReplyDeleteI, too, have a Pibbs but don't always feel like sitting while drying. Bought the GnH about three weeks ago thinking that I could sleep with it but for the very reasons you mentioned, it was a NO GO! I'll probably keep it because it will travel well on road trips, I just hope I get my money's worth before the bonnet dry rots and the tube gets sticky. :))
