Would you be more likely to read a magazine that featured models/celebs or girl next door types? Would you be more interested in an in-depth interview with Tracee Ellis Ross, Sabina Karlsson (or another curly/kinky hair idol) over a girl that's not famous, but with your idea of perfect hair?
You can't have both, you have to choose one.
Even though we say we want to see people who look like us, it is just not true. If everything around us was the same, we wouldn't have anything to strive for and life wouldn't even be interesting. We love fantasy, that is why books and movies are so popular.
ReplyDeleteWe love beauty as well. That is why we love flowers and interesting sunsets. We also love beautiful people and that is why they are used in movies and in advertising. They draw us in the way "average" people don't.
I'd prefer to see and read about the girl who looks like me. I hear where Shanna's coming from, but I don't feel everything is same regarding the girl next door. Something about the average person draws me in everyday. Whether it be a fly outfit, fierce hair, confident swag or quiet elegance. There is beauty in all of us. And while books and movies are hugely popular, they can be just as Shanna stated: fantasy...An escape from reality for a brief time. Sometimes they can be mindless entertainment, othertimes they give us a chance to flex and strengthen the grey matter in our mind.
ReplyDeleteRemember actresses and models are just people with jobs who have made there names and personas into brands. Celebrity comes with that territory. But when you strip them down sans the stylists and shoppers and make-up artists, they are just people that have something we admire: a fly outfit, fierce hair, confident swag or quiet elegance... just like the girl next door.
