One of my goals for 2010 was to publish 1000 posts to Mane and Chic in 2010. This is officially the 1001th post. Tough, it meant posting an average of 3 times a day, 7 days per week. Yeah, it was insane. I don't think I'll be doing that again. I love hair, fashion and personal growth, but I will admit I was getting a little burnt out doing it by myself. I am happy that I stuck with it and equally happy that it's done. I don't know why I chose 1000. I have no idea what I was thinking, but I became more disciplined in all areas of my life by following through on this goal I set.
Another goal was to have 5000 Facebook fans (or likes or whatever they are calling it now) and thanks to you, that happened too. So thank you for making that happen and helping me to exceed that goal.
I think I can confidently say that I have conquered most, if not all of my goals for 2010. It's kind of crazy reading the goals I wrote last year around this time and to see nearly all of them come to fruition. Not just my goals for Mane and Chic, but personal, financial, spiritual and emotional goals I had for myself. Let's just say I am living proof that positivity, goal-setting and choosing happiness is the key to everything.
In 2011, I just want you to love the new Mane and Chic e-shop. I'm so excited about it.
Did you reach any big goals in 2010? Have bigger plans for 2011?
I'd love to hear it. E-mail me or leave a comment below.
Sucks that we can't see her fabulous hair in this pic, but Miss Jordan is giving great eye game. What can we learn from this? You can still be fly even if you're all covered up.
Ladies, if you plan on shopping Mane and Chic's e-shop/e-boutique when it opens this spring/summer, please, participate in the survey by clicking below. Some subscribers may need to logon to participate.
If you participate in this survey, you will be the first to know when new merchandise hits the e-shop. I know the clothes are going to be dope and sell out quickly, so this will be a great advantage. Also, I haven't figured it all out yet, but I plan to offer the first 25 buyers a discount code. I don't know how much yet, but it's a thank you for all of your support.
Um, nothing. I'm pretty much an impulse buyer when it comes to hair stuff so if I don't already have it, I probably don't want it or don't need it. Plus, I don't like other people choosing my hair stuffs, that's personal and I'm super picky. I actually already got myself what I wanted and it's INSANE, but not hair-related. Are you wishing for any hair-related gifts this season? Please share in the comments.
Thought these looked festive, would you rock them? If the grinch was a diva, she (or he) would look amazing in these. Oh, I'm not knocking them, I think they are fly. I'm just saying... they are quite green. The heel is six inches with a 1.5 inch platform, hello, goodbye!
The Vortex: Where the Law of Attraction Assembles All Cooperative Relationships is the book I'm reading this week. It's similar to The Power of Now: A Guide to Spiritual Enlightenment in a lot of ways. I heard about this book through Oprah. No, not personally through her, but through The Secret. If you're not ready to get the message, it will go completely over your head. If you believe in the Law of Attraction, this is definitely something you should get your hands on. The concepts can be abstract or hard to grasp, but so that you can get the just, I'll simplify what I'm getting out of it.
It's about relationships and stresses the importance of your relationship with yourself. Being truly happy with yourself is the first step to attracting the friendships, intimate relationships and familial relationships that you want in your life. It does go into intimate relationships in detail and a few other different types of relationships. You can figure out how to be happier in the relationships you're in by just realizing that it's all in your power.
I realize that for some of you, this will seem completely foreign and you won't be into it. That's fine. It can be a life changing book if you're ready for it. The cover makes it look a little out there. (You remember Erykah Bady did her tour and it was entitled, "The Vortex". I have no idea if she is into Esther and Jerry Hicks and all of that, but maybe all of that will turn people off to this book). I can admit that I thought it was a little weird and I was very hesitant to read it. Yes, I want to read life-changing books and be progressive and conscious and all of that, but I'm not into doing anything too far to the left. All that being said, the book was very commonsensical and again just reiterated the power of being very conscious of your thoughts, shutting off negative self talk, learning to enjoying our lives, ourselves and our relationships — right now.
After reading these last few books, I definitely feel more at peace, hopeful, happy, grateful, positive, fearless, appreciative of all of life's details... I could really go on.
How are you all doing with the Throw Away 50 things challenge? The book suggested a 2 week deadline, but let's go on and extend it to December 31, 2011. Why not start the new year with a fresh, clutter-free start. I've progressed to the point where I have stuff boxed up and ready to go, but there's still more I want to get rid of. You'll remember I just did a big purging a couple of months ago. It's not like I'm a hoarder or anything, but there's always stuff to get rid of if I really think about it. Now, when I'm deciding I just ask myself if the "thing" fits into my dream life. If it doesn't, I toss it in the "get rid of it box".
Ok, ladies. Here is the 7th grouping of Featured Curls. I have one more grouping after this and then we're done and I'll post your favorite along with your top 10-12 picks. You can vote for as many or as little as you want.
Remember the poll that I posted the other day? The one where I asked, "If Mane and Chic was an online clothing retailer, would you buy?" Luckily and surprisingly, an overwhelming majority of you (well over 80% of readers) answered "definitely" or "maybe". I'm happy that you said that because I just woke up one morning and wanted to do it.
You'll remember that I was considering a magazine, but the more I explored that, the more I realized that I could fulfill that dream while also fulfilling my childhood dream of having my own clothing shop/boutique.
Is the market over saturated with clothing stores? Probably, but none will have my unique concept. You'll see more of that later.
As far as the magazine goes, it's not totally nixed. I'm going to create a lookbook twice a year (maybe: fall/winter and spring/summer) featuring the clothes and different ways to rock the same pieces along with some hair tips, interviews with the models (only going to use models with curly, coily or highly textured hair), tips on how we achieved the makeup looks and hair styles being used in the lookbook.
Affordability will be super important. I don't plan to do anything over $100-200, per your responses to the DEAL BREAKER PRICE POINT poll and when I do show pricey pieces, I will show you a myriad of ways you can rock it to stretch your dollars.
The shop will feature lifestyle clothes, clothes you live in so nothing formal, but pieces that you can dress up or dress down and really really work daily and get your money's worth and all the pieces will fit together so that everything will look like it belongs in the same closet. Think urban, unique, sexy, edgy, feminine, on-trend, euro-chic, cohesive and versatile. Think Tracee Ellis Ross, Solange with splashes of Shingai Shoniwa, Badu, Kesh, Rihanna and Kelis. That's the concept. So lots of statement pieces or bold pieces that can be paired with basics to be toned down or exaggerated if that's your persona.
For unique pieces, I'll show how to work it into your already existing wardrobe, using pieces that you already have or pieces that are highly accessible: white tees/tanks, black pants, black blazer, lbd, and things of that nature.
So, that's the idea and the new focus for Mane and Chic in 2011. I'm putting this out there right now so that those of you that love Mane and Chic can help make it happen with your support and positive energy. I'd love to hear you ideas and feedback. Comment here or send me an e-mail.
What will happen to the blog? It will still be around, most online shops have blogs. I don't know how often it will be updated, but... there's always the archives and the 101 Guide to Hair.
When will it happen? I'm buying my inventory in January and I will hopefully have the new site up for Spring 2011.
Making things happen, hope this will inspire you to push for something you've been wanting to do!
The first thing I invested in when I moved to Miami Beach is two pairs of sunglasses. They were classics and though I spent "a grip" on them, I'll probably have them for years to come. Here are my favorite "locs" for 2011 and beyond.
