It is my opinion (and perhaps a fact) that not very many people know what love is. This book explains love and dispels many of the myths and fallacies about love and not just about romantic love, but love of all types.
You will learn how your parents' relationship (or lack thereof), during your formative years, shaped the way you behave in relationships (whether you know it or not). You will learn that people operate either out of love or out of fear, love does not hurt, love has no fear, love is not attachment, love does not worry, love is not judgmental and so much more.
My favorite quotes from The Mastery of Love: A Practical Guide to the Art of Relationship:
You cannot change other people. You love them or you don't. You accept them the way they are or you don't. To try to change them to fit what you want them to be is like trying to change a dog for a cat, or a cat for a horse.
The one who loves you, loves you just the way you are. Because if someone wants to change you, it means you are not what that person wants.
If you cannot love your partner the way she is, someone else can love her just as she is. Don't waste your time, and don't waste your partner's time. This is respect.
The book also talks about self love which is by far the most important love relationship you will ever have, so whether you're in a relationship or not, this book will change your idea of love forever.Reminder: I'm open to your suggestions. Have you read a book that changed your life? Please share in the comments.
Thank you, I needed to know that this book exist. If it wasnt for you posting it I may have never known. You never know who may help with the blogs that you post. Again thank you.
ReplyDeleteThank you for providing your book reviews! They are wonderful and I have added a lot of your readings into my reading list. Currently, I'm in the process of reading Russell Simmons 'Do You' book after reading one of your posts on how it helped you get a job. So far, I'm loving it and am learning so much! I will be on a lookout for the Mastery of Love along with all the other books you have suggested.
ReplyDeleteOne book that has changed my life is The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. I'm sure you would like it if you haven't read it yet
Take care =)
Wow, thanks for sharing all the books that you've been reading. I have quite a list that I need to purchase but I will definitely purchase this one today!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing. I just picked up the book.
ReplyDelete@ Mastered...I heard great reviews about The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho and will pick that one up as well.
After reading your suggestion to read this book, I got the audiobook & listened to the whole thing today. I even listened to it at work. I loved it. It was a tad jarring to hear some of the ideas being discussed but I really liked it. I'd questioned the rules of love my entire life but I was never quite able to put it into words, until now. Thank you so much for recommending this book. I've even told a few other people about it. I'm looking forward to your next book selection. =]
ReplyDeleteI am adding this to my TBR (to be read) stack. Have you read The Art of Non-conformity? That was a great book.
